MIDWEST LENS SHOWS OFF ACTIVIST EYEWEAR: LIMITED EDITION SUNGLASSES DESIGNED IN BROOKLYN AND MADE IN JAPAN

I WEAR MY SUNGLASSES AT NIGHT - FASHIONINDIE.COM PARTY

They even had an up and coming eyewear brand there called Activist Eyewear. These sunglass are 100% innovative, based out of Brooklyn, and have every I dotted and every T crossed. This company really thinks about the customer and tries to give the customer a real custom feel. With each sun glass you buy you get a case that has an inside pocket for accessories, a lens cleaning cloth which is "tailored as a classic gentleman's pocket square..." (Activist Eye Wear cataloger), lanyard so that you can hang your glasses around your neck, and the box your sunglasses come in are hand stamped with the number of your sunglasses! If that's not custom enough for you they created a form fit which they call "Split Fit." According to their website the Split Fit is " ...an unorthodox system that distributes the forces over a much greater area of the head, so the pressure is never concentrated at any one point. With a core of either stainless steel or Beta-titanium and an exterior sheath of rubber, Split-Fit is sculpted to perfectly balance strength, flexibility and weight, guaranteeing your Activist sunglasses will always be incredibly comfortable and secure."

These sunglasses feel unlike anything else. They are super fly and super comfortable. Of course these sunglasses come at an expensive price of $450 but are worth every penny. Check them out at ActivistEyewear.com

ACTIVIZM LENSES "UNTAGGABLE" - BY ACTIVIST EYEWEAR - VIDEO

11/24/2010

Brooklynite newcomers Activist Eyewear give us a look at one of the many ill features offered in their Activizm Lens Technology.  The first in a series, this video demos the Oleophobic Seal that coats the entire outside of their lenses.  The title Untaggable pretty much says it all, as it repels mad scribbling with a Sharpie like its nothing.  Good for those mid-day bombing sessions in the hot sun!

More technical specs from the AE website:  "In the final stage of creating each Activizm lens, we cover all outer surfaces with our ultra-high performance Oleophobic Seal.  Applied in a vacuum chamber, this coating is one of the most advanced components of the Activizm system.  Its remarkable ability to repel both oil- and water-based substances means fingerprints, sweat, grease, water, ocean spray, whatever - it beads up and is easily wiped away.  All to ensure that the unparalleled optics of your Activizm lenses stay totally pure."

RAVE REVIEW FROM MANHATTAN USERS GUIDE

11/01/2010

These days, you better be good to enter your market at the higher end; fortunately Activist Eyewear is very, very good.

This brand-new line of sunglasses, launching this month from its Brooklyn base, is the vision of Mark Craig, who has overseen every detail with enormous ingenuity and care.

Mr. Craig has trademarked a design called Split-Fit, in which the weight of the frame is distributed differently from other glasses, meaning there's not a lot of pressure on any spot and making the glasses comfortable beyond any we've tried.

The nosepads have their own story: each frame has its own type of rubber to make the grip secure but unobtrusive. Take a look at the rubber and you'll see a fingerprint on some models (it's Mr. Craig's own) that's not just a fun touch: it helps with grip, too.

Lenses are made of a "Ballistic-Grade Hybrid Polymer" -- which translates as impact-resistant, lightweight, with full-spectrum filters and anti-reflective coating.

And the way each part fits together has been meticulously considered --in some cases invented -- and then produced by small, family-owned workshops in Japan.

Style-wise, Craig builds on classic forms, letting each purposeful detail speak for itself. You won't see a lot of any model either: each run of eyewear in a particular color palette is a limited edition of...718.

The glasses are $450 and will be available for purchase on November 15th at thewebsite only.

It takes a lot these days to get us to part with $4.50, much less $450. But this eyewear is the real deal -- cool, beautifully designed and produced. To our eyes, worth every penny.

GEARPATROL DOES AN EXCELLENT WRITEUP ON THE 10.01.

09/22/2010

There are hundreds of brands out there making Wayfarer-like pairs of shades, and at first glance the Activist Eyewear 10.01 ($450) may seem like just another imitator. Look closer though and you'll notice details you won't find on other specs. Before we dive into the specifics though, let's first make it clear that Activist Eyewear as a brand is built on the simple motto of quality over quantity. Each model's colorway is even limited to a production run of 718 pieces, in honor of the company's hometown area code. If that didn't make them special enough for you, then keep reading for more details and images.

Two of the 10.01's key features are the hingeless Split-Fit ends and custom rubber fin nose pads. The y-shaped ends may look like some strange frog limb grafted onto the frames, but they're designed to dynamically grip your head rather rest on your ears, making them comfortable and secure no matter what you get into. Similarly, the rubber nose pads are co-injected into the frame front and feature venting systems that help channel air in, and moisture out.

Their Activism lenses are just as feature packed. Besides blocking all manner of UV and absorb distracting reflective glare, they even sport an Oleophobic seal to help the lenses stay clean through sweat, water, dust, and oils. Sold in four distinct colorways, each pair comes with case, colorful cleaning cloth, and two sets of straps, making the $450 price tag slightly less difficult to swallow when you also factor in their limited edition nature. Look for them to become available this November.

NICE OVERVIEW OF THE BRAND ON OPTICALVISIONRESOURCES

09/12/2010

When I first heard of Activist Eyewear, I was excited, thinking with a name like Activist, this would be another eyewear company giving back, fighting for social change, picking up trash, but no Activist Eyewear aims to sell 'novelty'  as each one of their styles is a limited edition piece.

From Facebook: 'Activist Eyewear speaks the language of movement, and we're vigorous advocates for the cause. We founded this company to challenge the way things have always been done. Physically and creatively, we strive to keep the world moving forward. Our goal is nothing less than to challenge the rules, laws and norms of the establishment. For those who are looking for something truly different, we invite you to join us'

Sometimes when an eyewear designer makes up their limited edition number you wonder how did they come up with the number? With Activist Eyewear, you know, only 718 pieces are made, the 718 pieces are Brooklyn, NY area code, Brooklyn being where they are based.

Why are they different?

Ridged Nosepads

Activizm Lenses- Thin Polarized lenses, impact resistance, UV filtered, AR coated... Quality materials include stainless steele or beta titanium. They are made in Japan.

What is a little more intriquing is the ridged nosepads meant to grip (non slide) on the nose better plus the ridging allows for air flow. Different concept and depending on the material, it could be a winner.

In addition the split temple design is mean to grip or stay on the face better and distribute the temple pressure. They are not the first to use this split temple design and I anticipate there will be more companies utilizing a split temple, whether for a comfort level or the look.

Split-Fit Temple Design for Comfort

The best part- the whole package includes a microfiber cleaning cloth and a lanyard, plus of course the case. Great package deal and something I think all companies should include into their products.

The line is small and like the concept and I hope that with a name like Activist they will be able to live up to true activism.
